2018 Ford F-150 Features Advanced New Powertrain Lineup

The new 2018 Ford F-150 is tougher, smarter and more capable, thanks to advanced new powertrains that deliver best-in-class towing, payload and efficiency. The second-generation 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 gets an EPA estimated 20 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, and the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 can now tow up to 13,200 lbs.

Just three years ago Ford completely reinvented the F-150 with a new high-strength, military-grade, aluminum-alloy body that was a first for the segment. Now Ford has another segment first with its new 10-speed automatic transmission, and Ford truck buyers can also buy the first ever diesel engine available for the F-150.

“The Ford F-150 lineup again delivers on its promise to give full-size truck customers even more value,” said Todd Eckert, Ford truck group marketing manager. “Our new F-150 highlights Ford’s commitment to its hardworking truck customers and how we listen to their demands for their new F-150 to be even tougher, even smarter and even more capable for work and play.”

An enhanced version of the 5.0-liter V8 is also available, and offers best-in-class payload capacity of 3,270 lbs. Spray-on bore liner technology used on the Shelby GT350 Mustang has been used to reduce weight, and advanced dual port and direct-injection technology has allowed for an addition 10 horsepower and 13 lb.-ft. of torque.

The all-new 3.3-liter V6 replaces the previously standard 3.5-liter V6, and is more efficient, more powerful and delivers more torque. Compared to previous base V6 F-150 trucks, the 2018 F-150 features a better power-to-weight ratio, in addition to its increased performance and better fuel economy.

Ford’s all-new 3.0-liter Power Stroke turbo diesel V6 will be available in spring 2018, and is also paired to the new 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. The diesel engine will be great for truck owners who want a fuel efficient towing vehicle.
