2016 Ford F-150 Makes Backing Up a Trailer Easier – Dallas, Texas
For 2016, the bestselling Ford F-150 will be receiving a segment-first technology to help drivers of all skill levels easily back up and park a trailer. Pro Trailer Backup Assist takes the challenge out of backing up a trailer by allowing drivers to instinctively turn a knob left or right in order to change the direction of a trailer.
Typically backing up a trailer requires the truck’s front wheels to be turned the opposite direction of where the driver wants the trailer to go. Turning too hard or fast can cause the trailer to hit the vehicle or jackknife. With Pro Trailer Backup Assist, the steering and vehicle speed are controlled, simplifying the maneuvering of the trailer.
Ford engineers have been testing the advanced camera and trailer tracking technology for nearly a decade, and have earned five patents, with 10 more pending. The goal of the new system is to allow customers to spend more time enjoying activities and less time struggling to back up their trailers.
Pro Trailer Backup Assist joins other Ford trailer towing innovations that have made towing easier and safer over the years, such as an integrated trailer brake controller, a trailer sway control system, the ability to check if lights are out on the trailer without getting out of the truck and dynamic hitch assist for easy lining up of the truck and trailer.
The 2016 Ford F-150 also has the highest towing capacity of any light-duty pickup truck at up to 12,200 pounds when equipped with the powerful 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. For customers who need more towing capacity, Ford’s Super Duty trucks are best-in-class with the ability to tow up to 31,200 pounds when properly equipped.
