2017 Ford F-150 Gets New EcoBoost Engine and 10-Speed Transmission
Since its introduction a few years ago in the Ford F-150, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine has been a hit with customers. To keep continuously improving for its customers, Ford is introducing an all-new 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine and a new 10-speed transmission in the F-150 for the 2017 model year.
The new 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 provides 30 lb.-ft. more peak torque compared to the first-generation engine, with a best-in-class for V6 engines 450 lb.-ft. or torque. Combined with the recently introduced 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, nearly 1 million EcoBoost powered F-150 trucks have been sold, accounting for around 60 percent of F-150 sales.
New features to improve power, efficiency and emissions include a dual-direct and port fuel-injection system, new twin turbocharges with lighter components and lighter, more durable materials and parts used in the valvetrain.
Like other new EcoBoost engines, the new 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 features Auto Start-Stop as standard equipment, helping customers save fuel and reduce CO2 emissions by shutting off the engine when the vehicle is stopped. The system was tuned for truck customers, and will automatically be disabled when towing or in four-wheel-drive mode.
The all-new 10-speed automatic transmission will be the first ever mass-produced 10-speed available to customers from any automaker. The transmission uses advanced materials to save weight and improve fuel efficiency. Smarter shift logic with an improved tow/haul mode make sure that the F-150 is always in the right gear, giving owners a more engaging driving experience.
