All-new Ford Focus RS coming to U.S.
Ford unveiled their all-new, third-generation Focus RS today – a powerful all-wheel drive hatchback that will be making its way to the United States for the first time. The Focus RS, along with the Ford GT and new Raptor, is part of Ford’s plan to bring 12 new performance vehicles to market by 2020.
The Ford Focus RS features an advanced all-wheel drive system with dynamic torque vectoring control, paired to an optimized six-speed manual transmission. The engine is an upgraded version of the 2.3 liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder from the new Mustang. It delivers over 315 horsepower thanks to a new turbocharger, bigger intercooler and high-performance intake and exhaust.
Designers worked closely with Ford Performance engineers to ensure the aerodynamics were improved, in addition to looking more powerful and muscular. There are many functional features of the design that help with cooling of both the powertrain and braking system as well.
A selection of unique, multi-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels is available, including a lightweight forged design with increased impact resistance. Recaro sport seats come standard, with large bolsters to assist the driver when on the track. A flat-bottomed steering wheel and additional performance gauges add to the sportiness of the interior.
SYNC is also included in the Focus RS, with an 8-inch color touchscreen and optional Sony 10-speaker premium sound system and rear view camera. The new version of SYNC gives easy access to audio, navigation, climate control and phone features using either voice control or the high-resolution touchscreen.
