Ford Releases Smartwatch Apps for Electric Vehicle Owners
If you own a Ford electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle, you can now use your smartwatch to get information about your vehicle’s charge status, unlock the doors and get your driving score from your last trip. You can also check on how much range you have before leaving on your next trip and locate where your vehicle is parked.
The latest update to the MyFord Mobile application adds support for Android Wear and Apple Watch smartwatches, and is available in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store now. Owners can now quickly check important information about their vehicle without having to get out their smartphone and open the application.
The watch apps were developed specifically for the smaller and differently shaped displays found on today’s smartwatches. If you are using a watch with round display, like the Moto 360 or LG G Watch R, rounded gauges will be used to match the look of the watch. Apple Watch users can access the glance feature to simply swipe up on the watch interface to launch the app.
Ford electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle owners will also be able to initiate preconditioning of their vehicle’s cabin from their watch so it will be the perfect temperature when they arrive. If you can’t remember where your vehicle is parked, the watch app will even give you walking or driving directions back to your car.
The main application also now has a feature that uses Google Maps to provide availability of nearby charging stations. Drivers of Ford C-MAX Energi, Ford Focus Electric and Ford Fusion Energi vehicles can try out the app now.
