Tuesday Tech Tips – Radio Features and Setting Part 1
RADIO/ENTERTAINMENT FEATURES ON MYFORD TOUCH
Your MyFord Touch System is jam-packed full of features. There are several options on both sides of the screen to enhance your entertainment and allow you to interact with your system.
You have 3 ways to tune to a station. Below the screen are controls to change station, either a (+) or (-) button or dial, on-screen controls, and voice command. Pressing the voice button, after the system requests a command, simply say the station call sign for AM/FM or the name of the station for SIRIUS.
AM and FM Radio
You can have up to 12 Pre-sets on AM. On FM, you can have up to 18 Pre-sets. You can tune using the on-screen controls, controls below the screen, or by using the voice button and saying the call-sign for the station: “820” tunes the radio to AM 820, WBAP. Clicking on the DIRECT TUNE button on the right side will change the preset buttons at the bottom of the screen to numeric keys 1-10, with an enter button, allowing you to key in the station number: 8-9-7-Enter, tunes you to 89.7 Power FM. To save a Pre-set, tune to the station you want, and hold the Pre-set button you want to assign the station to down until it turns red and makes a pop sound.
FM Radio and HD
On some trim levels, High Definition or HD Radio is available. HD Radio provides you with a higher quality signal with a much improved audio quality. Also, since HD Radio is a digital broadcast, quite often you will find that there are multiple stations broadcast on one radio frequency. Once the HD signal is coming through, the HD symbol will light up yellow above the station. If a series of numbers (from 1 up to 8) appears next to HD, then you can tune to the additional stations by using the tune (+) or (-) buttons, or tuning nob. As a for-instance: in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, 100.3 FM KJKK has 3 stations, JACK/The Strip (Adult Standards: Sinatra era/style Jazz)/and Indie-Verse (punk and new wave). HD stations can be pre-set just like any other station.
iPhone users and HD Radio
Another really great feature for HD radio for users with iPhones is the ability to TAG a song that is playing. Under the OPTIONS menu on the right hand side of the screen is a feature called TAG at the bottom of the menu. When this is activated, there is a new button on the screen with the word TAG and the image of a shopping cart. While listening to an HD station, if this button is lit, you can TAG a song, sending it to your iTunes store for purchase. The next time your phone updates to the cloud, or the next time you connect your phone to your computer for updates, it will update.
