Tuesday Tech Tips – Switching Phones with SYNC

SYNC

With the ability to pair up to 12 phones or other Bluetooth devices with your SYNC system, there are many advantages for the driver.  One advantage is the ability to switch phones.  The operation is different on the MyFord Touch (MFT) system.

If you have more than one phone connected you are able to switch to a secondary phone, even if the primary phone is in the vehicle, too.  There’s no need to turn the primary phone off; you can switch to a secondary phone in the settings of your SYNC equipped Ford vehicle.

Phone Menu

On the center console, press the phone button to open up the phone menu.  Press the down button, or use the tuning dial (if equipped) to go down the menu until you find the screen that says SYSTEM SETTINGS.

Press the OK button.

There are two primary options in the SYSTEM SETTINGS Menu; BLUETOOTH SETTINGS and ADVANCED.

We want BLUETOOTH SETTINGS. Press OK.

Look for BLUETOOTH DEVICES.  Press OK.

Choose your device and press OK.  SYNC will connect up with the selected phone.

But what if both phones are the same?

If both phones are identical they may have the exact same name in your SYNC system.  Most phones have a feature that allows you to give it a unique name such as “Bill’s Phone” or something similar.  However, if you find that both phones have the same name, the primary phone will have a star next to it in the menu.
