The Capable All-New 2018 Ford Expedition FX4

This year Ford is introducing the most off-road capable Expedition in the model’s history, with the all-new FX4 Off-Road Package available on the completely redesigned 2018 Ford Expedition. The FX4 package adds the technology and 4×4 equipment needed to allow the full-size family SUV to take on tough trails.

The new high-strength steel frame and tough aluminum-alloy body are the perfect foundation for a rugged off-road vehicle. The use of advanced materials has enabled Ford engineers to save up to 300 pounds, which allows for more technology and features than ever before.

FX4 Off-Road Package Expeditions include an electronic limited-slip rear differential, off-road tuned shocks, all-terrain tires, seven underbody skid plates, unique 18-inch Magnetic Metallic cast-aluminum wheels, chrome running boards, unique badging and rubber floor liners for easy cleanup.

Ford’s advanced Terrain Management System allows drivers to select from seven different drive modes, which adapt to different road conditions. Some of the Expedition FX4’s drive modes include tow/haul, eco for improved fuel economy, sand for low traction and mud/rut for uneven surfaces. Drivers can also manually select either 2WD or 4WD.

“The FX4 Off-Road package delivers off-road driving confidence,” said Mike Kipley, Expedition vehicle engineering manager. “The technology we’re using works to adapt to different driving conditions so customers can enjoy the adventure without worry.”

An upgraded version of the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 comes standard, and is rated for 375 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. It features Auto Start-Stop technology and is paired with an all-new 10-speed automatic transmission. The 2018 Expedition offers best-in-class towing of 9,300 pounds.

The interior features room for up to eight people and a large cargo area to hold plenty of gear. A second-row seat with tip-and-slide functionality gives easy access to the third row without needing to remove an installed child safety seat.
